Okehampton Argyle 2
Seaton Town 2
SATURDAY was definitely two points dropped by Argyle on chances created but a win for Okehampton would have been harsh on Seaton Town who were probably the fittest and hardest working team that will visit Simmons Park all season.
Okehampton opened the scoring after only two minutes when new signing Luke Alden shot from 25 yards completely deceived the Seaton goalkeeper to put Okehampton 1-0 up. Any thoughts that Okehampton would have an easy afternoon were soon put to bed ten minutes later when the Seaton town centre forward, who was a constant threat all game, broke the Argyle offside trap; at the second attempt, after Harry Gearing had brilliantly saved his first effort, he managed to roll in the equaliser.
The remaining 30 minutes of the first half was a pretty even affair with Argyle having most of the ball but being constantly thwarted by a Seaton midfield five that never stopped running all afternoon
The second half of a game is when Argyle usually get up a head of steam and start creating the chances and although they again had plenty of the ball and most of the possession the chances were few and far in between; however, with about 20 minutes to go Tallan Burns received the ball wide out on the left hand side and went on a mazy run leaving three Seaton town players in his wake before smashing the ball from 20 yards into the bottom right hand corner for a fantastic finish to give Argyle a 2-1 lead.
The home crowd probably thought that would be the end of the scoring and Argyle would go on to win for the fourth game in a row but with 10 minutes to go Seaton were awarded a free kick 20 yards from the Okehampton goal and the resulting free kick somehow ended up in the Argyle goal after deflecting off the defensive wall and over the Argyle keeper to make it 2-2.
The remaining ten minutes were spent in the Seaton half with Argyle throwing everything at Seaton to try and get the winner when, with almost the last kick of the game, Argyle were awarded a penalty when a Seaton Town defender was harshly penalised for handball.
Regular penalty taker Dale Chadwick confidently walked up to take the decisive kick only to see it hit the underside of the bar and crash back down onto the line before bouncing clear and leaving the game all square at 2-2.
Due to the constant hard work of the entire Seaton Town team it was probably the right result but Argyle will see it as two points dropped
