COLYTON 1

OKEHAMPTON ARGYLE 3

Okehampton made the long trip to Colyton for this week’s game. Eight wins on the bounce for Argyle had them confident before kick off and the strong squad for the game did not disappoint.

The visitors started on top on a wet pitch. The first goal came from a long ball upfield from Hawking. The keeper tried to clear but his strike was deflected by Ausden who followed it up with a cool finish into the empty net. This seemed to settle Okehampton down who then started to  thrive finding openings on a regular basis. After a few missed chances from Argyle they finally doubled their lead in the closing stages of the first half. Chadwick won the ball on the halfway line and released Alden; he travelled direct towards the goal before curling it into the bottom corner with the keeper rooted.

The second half saw much of the same. The wind picked up and the pitch deteriorated causing the game to lose some quality. A couple of strong tackles saw the ref issue a couple of yellow cards. The game, though, was sealed when Squire broke through the centre to release Mortimore to find the bottom corner.

At 3-0 it should have been game over, but a late surge and a scramble in the box saw a consolation goal from Colyton and a nervy last 10 minutes for the visitors.

Okehampton though held firm and came away with three well deserved points. It was a good team performance with Dale Chadwick scooping  man of the match.

Okehampton remain four points clear in the league and still unbeaten all season.
