Penzance firsts 2

Oke men firsts 3

WITH only 11 men they traveled down to Penzance. They started strongly with excellent passing play from midfielders Nick Luxton and joint man of the match Reuben Bourne. The latter picked out the other joint winner Jack Watson who was in on goal and with a deft touch took it past the keeper and pummelled it into the net.

Oke kept up the pressure and with supreme distribution skills from Luke Liversidge, the visitors pressed higher up the pitch. This allowed front man Sam Whalley to find space and cause mayhem within the Penzance defence. Whalley was able to dribble the ball past helpless defenders and pass it on to Luxton, who then found an unmarked Liversage at the top the box who fired it into the corner of the Penzance goal.

As the game went on Oke kept the pressure up, the solid defence of captain Rod Gers and Neil Rowlands allowed them to control the middle of the pitch. This gave wing backs Caleb and Simon Bourne the opportunity to push up and assist with pressing the Penzance defence back, creating many chances for the Oke attack. The half time whistle sounded, giving the Okehampton players a much needed rest after an energetic first period.

At the start of the second half they produced some superb passing play from Luxton and Whalley. Luxton’s careful through ball released Whalley, who took the ball past the bewildered Penzance defence and smashed it into the goal to make it 3-0. The tired legs of Oke allowed Penzance to creep back into the game and the Cornish team eventually capitalised on their offensive pressure, firing the ball past keeper George Morgan.

Oke were still able to create chances with piercing runs from wide players Watson and Josh Speak. Former captain Speak came close to increasing the lead but the keeper neatly blocked out his rasping shot.

Penzance scored following a slip from Caleb, who, despite his best efforts was unable to reach the ball as it was fired into Oke’s goal. In the final ten minutes, Oke sealed the victory with some great defending from the back four and the ever defiant keeper Morgan making some spectacular saves as the visitors kept their nerve to finish the game off.
