Devon seconds C Axminster seconds v Yelverton seconds THE Yelverton second team made it three wins in a row as they defeated Axminster by 46 runs on their travels at the weekend. Yelverton won the toss and elected to bat first but Mark Rallings departed for a duck off the last ball of the first over.  The second wicket pair of Gavin Jones and Mark Symes put on 42 before skipper Jones (22) fell lbw to his opposite number James Whetlor (2-27). Symes added a further 52 to the total for the third wicket with veteran Gerry Keen, before he was caught off the bowling of Sam Farrow for 28. Gerry Keen fell three runs later with the total on 97 when he played on to his stumps also off the bowling of Farrow.  Anis Zubair added 61 for the fifth wicket with Stuart Yetton before he became Farrow's third victim caught in the covers for 31.  Farrow bowled his nine overs of leg-spin straight through with guile and disguise to take 3-22. Veteran Chris Cottrell joined Yetton in the middle and the pair took the visitors' total past the 200 mark.  Yetton fell for 40 having a slog and with Cottrell unbeaten on 42 as the innings closed on 229-6. In reply, the home side made a cautious start against accurate bowling from 18 year old Cameron Dawe (1-27) and Tony Carter.  Carter struck first bowling opener Ostler for 5.  Paul Miller joined Peter Kiy and the pair upped the scoring rate, with Miller striking a number of boundaries.  With the score on 81, Miller was bowled by Chris Pearson (1-26 off 9).  Kiy and Whetlor (27) added 52 for the third wicket before Steve Colmer (2-65) bowled Kiy for 48.   Skipper Gavin Jones removed his opposite number six runs later when he had Whetlor lbw for 27, to leave Axminster 139-4.  With the scoring rate creeping up, and some excellent fielding in the deep from Dawe, Rallings, Symes and Yetton, the Axminster innings slowly subsiding to 183 all out with Tony Carter returning to mop up the tail (3-9 off 7).  An all-round good team performance picking up 20 points to leave Yelverton in fourth place in the C Division table after six games played.
