Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.

I MAKE no apologies for speaking solely about the Olympics this week; it seems hard to imagine that there is anything else happening outside of this sporting spectacle!

Team GB may have been a little slow getting out of the starting blocks but now we are unstoppable. I don't think anyone could ever have imagined such a gold rush, our national anthem seems to be on repeat and the medals just keep flowing in.

I have been extremely lucky and had the opportunity to watch several sports live — including three separate sessions in which Devon athletes have been competing. Outside of these days I have never watched so much television in my life. I must admit I didn't manage to wangle any tickets for last 'Super Saturday' and as a result I could not drag myself away from the television until our final gold had been won — I then ended up incredibly late to a concert and only caught the last song but I have no regrets - that is a day that should go down in sporting history.

Anyone visiting London right now might well be a little surprised at the friendliness and vibrancy that is filling the city. The usually silent tube, commuters wearing dark clothes, people rushing about their business with their heads down; it has all disappeared or just been hidden by the wonderful influx of sporting supporters whether from abroad or other parts of the UK. The one event I've attended that didn't have Devon representation was the beach volley ball and the atmosphere there really summed up the London Games — it was like a carnival and I felt I was on Copacabana beach in Brazil, just with Big Ben overlooking!
