STANNARY Hash House Harriers, also known as SH3, commemorated the 209th anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar (in 1805) where Admiral Nelson and his fleet defeated the combined French and Spanish navies.

Stannary Hash gathered in large numbers to celebrate the event which has become a firm favourite on the hashing calendar.

A large turnout of 50 or more runners gathered together, starting and finished at the Dartmoor Inn, Merrivale. The runners followed a clearly marked sawdust trail which meandered across open fields and nearby woods before finishing in plenty of time for the evening entertainment.

There was a naval theme with many of the hashers dressing for the occasion in varying degrees of authentic Royal Naval uniform, including the singing of a few songs and rendition of the famous scene where a dying Nelson is attended by his second in command Hardy. A jolly time was had by all.

Stannary Hash House Harriers meet every Monday evening at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start and follow a marked trail. The trails are designed for all abilities with frequent stops and short cuts. The runs last no more than an hour before retiring to one of the many superb pubs the area has to offer.

SH3 is based in Tavistock. Hashing is a non-competitive, social activity for all with a bit of running and walking involved and is open to all ages including families. It is a great way to see the moor, meet old friends and make new ones.
