Tavistock B 4
Plymouth University 1
TAVISTOCK B’s final game of the season saw them going into the game with a strong squad mainly consisting of under 17s and over 55s.
The blend was just right and saw them get off to a good start, playing some good hockey that had been developing throughout the season - possession, shape and team work. The attacks came and so did the goals.
Donnelly took the match ball securing a fine hat trick - his hard work and hard running paying dividends with Andrews (although not scoring himself) creating the assists for the former to pounce on. Worthy of mention in attack was 13 year-old J Sealey, who had an outstanding game, finding the necessary space to set up attacks and be a thorn in the side of the University defence.
The team welcomed Bott back to the side after a long stint in the A team and he made a real difference in midfield with good vision and sublime passing.
Cull for Tavistock had a tremendous effort saved off the line after moving up the field from the left back position to find himself virtually unopposed at the edge of the D. The post was hit in a frantic moment in the University D with Walker securing his second goal of the season, calmly striking the ball with balance and poise for an unstoppable shot.
So it was to be — a 4-1 win in Tavistock B’s final game of a long and hard season. Captain Paul Mason told the Times it was one which had been the most enjoyable in his 43 years of playing.
