Friendly Tavistock AFC 2 Falmouth Town 1 THE Lambs recorded their first victory in their build-up to the start of the 2014-15 campaign. The home team played some good football and were more than a match for an equally good Falmouth team. The game opened at a really fast pace with both teams passing the ball with accuracy and at pace. In the 18th minute it looked as if the Lambs would take the lead when Carlton Farnham broke free and he rounded the keeper but his effort was cleared off the goal line by the visitors' centre back. Two minutes later Piper in the home goal made a great save to deny the Falmouth centre forward from opening their account. From the corner kick there was a goal mouth scramble but both Josh Robbins and Dan Follettt cleared off the goal line. Falmouth took the lead in the 28th minute when the home defence was caught out with a long ball over the top; this set Cane free who duly slotted the ball past the advancing Piper in the home goal. Back came the Lambs and on several occasions their passing was excellent; Carlton Farnham, who caused the visiting defence with all sorts of problems with his pace and dribbling skills all afternoon. On three occasions he got into the penalty area but his crosses were cleared by a resolute Falmouth defence. The Lambs almost equalised in the 36th minute when Farnham had fired just wide of the target, but he made amends four minutes later when he picked up a ball 35 yards from goal waltzed past four defenders, and coolly slotted the ball past the visiting goal keeper to level the scores. This was a great individual goal which will be remembered by the spectators for a long time. In the second half the Lambs had the lion's share of the play and they continued to play at a high tempo, with great movement off the ball. This allowed their passing game to flow and produce some excellent football. The home team deservedly took the lead in the 63rd minute when, following a great move, Edwards was set free, and he rounded the advancing keeper and coolly slotted the ball home. Shortly after Jarryd Kelly went close to increasing the Lambs' lead but his shot was just wide of the target. Falmouth continued to play their part in this exciting game and Cane had an effort cleared, as they pressed for an equaliser. It was the Lambs who finished the stronger and recorded a deserved victory. New manager Kevin Hendy and his assistant are doing an excellent job, the team is definitely looking much fitter and sharper than last season and playing with confidence and guile. Supporters can now look forward to a season of good quality football.
