MORE than 400 young people were involved in a mass celebration of the school games.

The East Cornwall School Games competition was held at Callington Community College with all secondary schools and colleges taking part were from Callington, Saltash, Liskeard and Looe. Competitions took place in table tennis, girls football, handball, fencing, volleyball, dance and golf.

The focus of the games was to celebrate local youth sport, citizenship and leadership. Leaders and officials from each of the schools help to organise and officiated during the games.

Julie Ponting, the games' organiser for East and North Cornwall, said: 'The games were a fantastic opportunity to celebrate youth sport in South East Cornwall and the competition was of a high standard and the young leaders and officials were exemplary.'
