Paignton seconds v

Yelverton firsts

THE RAF Red Arrows undertook a traditional flypast during Saturday’s league fixture at Queens Park, Paignton.

That was not only the distraction for the visiting Yelverton Bohemians team as during the match a streaker ran across the pitch – even this did not put the Bohemians off their stride.

Yelverton skipper Sam Crompton won the toss and elected to bat. After the early loss of veteran opener Brain, left-hander Rich Townsend and Ben Grove put on 39 before Townsend fell with the score on 58.

Grove was next to go after scoring a brisk 39 (with seven fours) with the total 71. Giles Beauchamp and James Reyburn put on 53 for the fourth wicket, their partnership being broken when Reyburn fell for 33 with the total on 124.

Fifteen year-old Jamie Cooper then scored a quick-fire 14 and when Beauchamp fell for 20 this left the Bohemians on 140-6.  Hamish Robertson and Luke Julyan added another 31 for the seventh wicket, with Robertson hitting two big sixes.  Robertson fell with the score on 171 leaving Julyan to marshal the tail and took the score to 206 all out, Julyan ending up 27 not out.

In reply Paignton started well scoring 37 off seven overs before losing their first wicket.  Two more wickets fell with the score on 39 as their reply faltered.

The total had reached 58 when the introduction of Tom Richards proved to be a game changer as he took a wicket in his first over and a wicket in each of the following four to record figures of 5-16, leaving the Paignton innings in disarray on 75-8.  Dan Keylock and Robertson polished off the tail with a wicket each as Paignton were bowled out for 90 off 25.1 overs.
