Lewdown v Barton
LEWDOWN roared back to winning ways last week with a century from Johan Wessels.
Following their opening day defeat to Bradninch, Lewdown bounced back to convincingly beat Barton by 70 runs.
The visitors from Torquay won the toss and elected to field, a decision they regretted from the start as Johan Wessels mercilessly despatched the Barton bowling to all corners of the ground.
Wessels was dropped on 22 — a costly error as he went on to score 149 and was ably supported by Leon Horn (17), skipper Tallon Burns (24) and Harry Geering (61 not out). Lewdown finished on 294-4 which was always likely to present a challenging target.
The challenge got even more difficult for the visitors after tea when they lost wickets with the first and fifth ball of the innings as Wessels followed up his form with the bat with his bowling to reduce Barton to 0-2.
Barton came back gamely with Drake (73) and Gilmor (41), providing hope before two wickets apiece from Tallon Hughes, Charlie Hughes, Leon Horn and Adam Creasey brought proceedings to a close with the visitors reaching 222 all out.
