Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough v

Whitchurch firsts

WHITCHURCH first team travelled to near neighbours and strugglers PCS and R full of hope but put in a fairly abject performance.

They were asked to bat first on a pitch that looked interesting. Skipper Powell was soon out, clean bowled by Dent and the middle order soon followed. Only Bone (15) offered any fight as Whitchurch were 40-6 off only 15 overs. It then became a question of trying to bat time and try to post a reasonable target collecting batting points.

Winsor took 2-20 aided by a couple of sharp slip catches and Yates 2-16.

Tamblin, who had dropped anchor, and Sambells, who top scored with 19 took the score towards 100. Mckenzie and Tamblin then added another 19 for the final wicket leaving Whitcurch all out for 118 with nine overs unused. Dent finishing things off to have 3-16. PCS and R set about the chase with gusto. Winsor and Read were rattling along at nine an over with the looming thunder clouds Whitchurch’s only hope.

Winsor smashed his way to a half century as Whitchurch’s bowlers offered few probing questions. However he was well caught behind the wicket by Barriball off Poole for 57, but the game was up shortly after as Dent smashed the ball out of the ground.

Plymouth Civil Service and Roborough won by seven wickets with 28 overs to spare.
