Whitchurch seconds v Dartington and Totnes thirds

WHITCHURCH second XI backed up last week’s win with a dominant performance at home to Dartington and Totnes thirds.

Stand in skipper Tamblin won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. This decision was soon vindicated as Sambells and Northey ripped through the Darts’ top order.

Northey struck first, aided by a running catch from keeper Cotter. He then got two more before Sambells got in on the act. Northey returned figures of 4 for 25 and Sambells 3-31, as Dartington and Totnes slumped to 52-7. With Webber chipping in as first change the wickets were soon eight. Tamblin continued his good form to make it nine down.

Only tailenders Rusling and Porter put up any great resistance, as Dartington and Totnes were dismissed for 94. The final wicket a run out after good fielding from Tilsley.

Whitchurch’s reply was steady. Ben Powell and Andy Alford added 50 for the first wicket with the former dominating the run scoring. Both departed in quick succession. However, rising star Cotter and veteran Bob Powell saw their side home with eight wickets in hand and almost half of the overs.

Whitchurch secured 20 points and continue their push for promotion.
