ONE of the series of West Devon U9’s Festivals was held at Yelverton Bohemians Cricket Club on Sunday.

U9 Teams from Bridestowe and Lewdown, Buckland Monachorum, Cornwood, Ivybridge, Plymstock, Plympton and Tavistock were welcomed to a lovely sunny morning at host club Yelverton Bohemians CC’s Langton Park ground.

Some players were as young as aged 5 or 6 playing their first ever Kwik-Cricket games following the launch of the ECB All-Stars Programme earlier this summer.  The teams were split into two groups.

After the conclusion of all the games, Cornwood CC were the winners of group one, narrowly defeating runners-up Tavistock CC by four runs.  In group two, the play-off game was a similarly close affair with Plympton CC defeating Bridestowe and Lewdown CC by just two runs to win the group.

Alex Jopling, the Devon Cricket community cricketcCoach (Plymouth and West Devon) was on hand to present certificates to all the teams who took part.

Chris Pearson of Yelverton CC, on behalf of the organisers, thanked all the players, parents, helpers and volunteers who made the day such a success.  The next West Devon U9s Festival will be held at Buckland Monachorum CC on Sunday.
