Devon C West

BRIDESTOWE kept up the pressure on Bovey Tracey at the top of C West with an 81-run win at home to struggling Plympton.

The hosts were reduced to 49-4 by Adam Sellick (2-42) and Steve Raven (3-42), with league top run scorer Gary Sizmur (23) failing to pass 50 for the first time in four weeks. Ryan Dennis (76) and Mark Fogerty (40) rebuilt the innings, putting on 129 for the fifth wicket. New Zealand women’s international Felicity Leydon-Davis (4-36) picked up late wickets with Bridestowe looking to up the run-rate. Late fireworks from Richard Drake (23) got Bridestowe up to 236-9 from their 40 overs.

After losing an early wicket, Jason Degg (25) and Rob Walker (70) brought Plympton back into the game with a run-a-ball stand of 44. Ryan Dennis (2-24) broke the partnership and from there the visitors’ chase fell away.

Half of Alex Jopling’s (2-6) eight overs were maidens, as Plympton fell well below the required run-rate. Gary Sizmur (3-43) and Phil Hatton (2-39) picked up regular wickets towards the end of the innings, and Dennis returned to bowl Walker to seal the win.
