WHITCHURCH Wayfarers Cricket Club recently held their awards evening for the colts section all the way up to the 1st XI, with chairman Nigel Barriball on hand for the presentations.

In the Devon Cricket League, the men’s 1st XI secured survival in the E Division West on the final day with their 2nd XI also avoiding the drop, now being able to look forward to another year of G Division West action.

Starting with the U11s and their best batsman was Reggie Williams, best bowler was John Beswetherick and most improved was Tommy Harris.

In those same categories respectively, Korbin Dumbreck, Edward Borthwick and Charlie Vernon received recognition in the U13s.

John Marks was the junior clubman and earned the Den Crocker Shield, George Lake was awarded the Beaver Cup as the most improved colt and the best overall colt, therefore the recipient of the coveted Pedrick Cup, went to Charlie Savage.

Moving onto the senior awards and in the Whitchurch 1st XI, Richard Hall got the nod as the standout batsman and with ball in hand, Ben Hodge shone. Ben Jones was the captain’s player of the year.

Meanwhile, for the 2nd XI, Harrison Woodcock earned his plaudits for work with the bat, Nathan Endean won the bowling prize and Neil Tamblin was named as the captain’s player of the season.

Lastly to the general awards which span across both of the teams.

Nathan Prout was the club fielder, Charlie Goodfellow the noted young player, Jack Mackenzie the jack-of-all-trades all-rounder, Pete Williams was the most improved player and for their service both on and off the field, Kenny Mackenzie is the Whitchurch Wayfarers clubman of the year.

Another season of cricket has been and gone at Whitchurch House and before we know it, it will be April/May time and the new campaign will be upon us.
