Whitchurch firsts v Exwick

THE Wayfarers hosted Exwick on a beautiful summer’s day looking for a return to winning ways.

Powell won the toss and decided to bowl. Exwick openers Murphy and Calderhead attacked Sambells and Towl, accelerating the score to 34 after three overs.

Sambells, however, then removed Murphy through a stunning catch by Barriball. This was a start of a collapse as Sambells picked up the wickets of Calderhead, Strougler and Grunsell, all of them caught in the field, as the visitors collapsed to 56-4.

Towl picked up a deserved wicket bowling Courtenay. Northey had a wicket with his first ball through a good catch by Potts. Marais cleaned up the lower order and Hodge picked up the last wicket as Exwick were bowled out for 88. Sambells 4-37 and Marais 3-7 were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply Powell and Towl started steadily for Whitchurch, seeing the score to 37 before Towl feathered one behind for 13.

Powell and Hall doubled Whitchurch’s score before Powell was bowled for 40. Barriball came to the crease with four required and found the boundary rope on his second ball as Whitchurch won with Hall finishing on 31 not out.
