Downham struck with his first ball. Forgham and Manning then added 25 for the second wicket until Forgham skied one for Downham to catch off Marais. Manning stuck around and made 21 until being caught one handed by Crabb off a long hop from Marais.
Hatherleigh then struggled to get any momentum and were grateful for the generosity of the Whitchurch bowlers who sent down 18 wides in 27 overs. Marais took 4-8 and Crabb 3-7, plus a run out from Potts as Hatherleigh were dismissed for 64.
Dunne and Doug Vernon had added 32 for the Whitchurch reply, when Vernon was bowled by Grimshaw for 12. Dunne and Credicott completed the job, seeing Whitchurch home with nine wickets and 29 overs in hand.
