THE 2018 regatta season ended on a high for Cotehele Quay Gig Club with a record 28 gigs taking part in the club’s own Tamar Challenge event on October 14. CQGC fielded three crews in the race upriver from Saltash to Cotehele Quay.
The competition was fierce. The ladies’ veterans in Cream of Cornwall were fourth past the finish line but with a time of 1 hour 15 minutes 36 seconds, only managed 21st place.
The men’s B in Teylu completed the race in 1.07.23 – the fourth fastest time – with the ladies’ B in Zeus recording a race time of 1.19.02.
Teams came from as far afield as Weymouth, Lyme Regis, Bristol and Cape Cornwall. Trophies went to first past the post.
