THE ‘fairytale’ start to Conservative’s C’s season in the Tavistock Snooker League showed no signs of abating as they picked up another four points at West Devon B.
Davies, while not in full flowing mode, did enough to take the first frame for Con C, with Davey edging out Hooper in a pulsating ‘ebb and flow’ frame culminating in a black ball finish to stretch the Con C’s lead to two.
Hall for Con C had another tough frame against West Devon B’s Andy Smith, with his 20 break proving to be the deciding factor.
The next frame produced a rare win for Clive Jago, who seized the moment to clinch his frame with another ‘black ball’ finish, to put the Con C’s four up.
Any thoughts of a maximum five for Con A were soon extinguished as the effervescent West Devon skipper Gilchrist produced a frame of authority to heap more pain on the out of form Neale, giving his team a morsel of comfort to go home with.
It was not an evening for celebration for Conservative Z as they were taken to the cleaners by the West Devon A team in an efficient manner. First into the maelstrom was Lillicrap (senior) for Con Z who despite his best efforts, fell to a ruthless performance by Brookes (29).
Next to the table was Taylor for the West Devon who had a slightly hesitant frame against Ewings, but managed to hold on in a black ball game to gain the point.
Even at this early stage things looked ominous for the Con Z as Hodge went head to head against a confident Heathman.
Hodge failed to get under way at any point during the match and relied on Heathman’s occasional fouls to bolster his meagre points tally. McKechnie (junior) put up a decent rear-guard action against Morris (21) of the West Devon but was eventually outplayed in a tight and tense frame.
All hope for some redemption rested on the shoulders of Mayors, who likewise struggled against Rich who finally took the frame easily and presented his team with a 5-0 victory and five well deserved points.
