A FINE performance from all concerned gave Con Z their first 5-0 of the season against the West Devon B Team. First to the table was Symons for the Cons, slightly deflated after last week’s poor showing but determined to make amends against Horrell who, despite a staunch rear guard action, could not keep up with Symons.
The normally steady McKechnie for the Cons, who has had a poor season so far by his own standards, put in one of his finer efforts to convincingly beat a lacklustre Roger Rich.
Mayors of the Cons team did a fine job of seeing off a normally consistent Hart with some well executed potting skills, not letting Hart anywhere close to mounting a challenge.
A last minute substitution, Gilchrist for West Devon did as well as he could against a rampant Hall, but to no avail. The other half of the Rich brothers, John, put up a sterling performance to keep his team in the running, and was in the lead on a number of occasions, but a resolute Fitzsimmons took full advantage of a number of unforced errors from Rich — a problem that had beset West Devon all evening — to take the frame and present his team with a remarkable win. Moving to Second spot in the league for Con Z was fair reward for their honest endeavours.
West Devon A bounced back to winning ways with a decent 4–1 win over West Devon D to pull themselves back amongst the top of the table chasing pack.
It was the D Team that drew first blood though with Murton providing a runaway win over Lawrence.
Taylor pulled the A Team level with a hard fought black ball win over Hooper to start his new year snooker off on the right path after a mixed bag 2015.
Kevin Rich needed no second invitation in a runaway victory over a subdued Paul Shrimpton; with 31 and 25 breaks it was over in a flash.
Keith Morris looked assured in a comfortable win over Shoulders to make the game safe for the A Team.
The A Team’s icing on the cake was provided by Heathman although he had to fight all the way to overcome the resilient Decieco, to make it 4–1.
