Exe Ladies ladies’ seconds 8

THE Columbines played top of the league Exe seconds at home. Exe started confidently and took an early lead despite goalkeeper Alice Wiseman’s valiant efforts.

Short passes between Oke’s Anna Speak and Emily Rowlands provided an effective counter-attack which put pressure on the Exe defence but did not result in a goal. Exe had several short corners, which were expertly defended by Nicky Pedrick and Abi Colton but they eventually extended their lead with a successful corner.

The visitors capitalised on their momentum and scored two more goals in quick succession. Just before half time, Captain Kim Davey used her speed to score an impressive goal after a run from the half way line to leave the score at half time 4-1 to Exe.

Okehampton firsts started the second half well with a Hannah Whiteley goal which came as a result of a cross from Jo Moppett. Sophie Whiteley and Laura Parsons held up the Exe response with strong tackles in the middle but the Exe forwards scored again.

Oke’s Jess Medland linked well with Sophia Marshall on the left to create some chances going forward but found Exe solid in defence.

The league leaders scored twice more to finish the game 8-2. This result has secured Exe the league win with two matches to go and the Okehampton ladies congratulated them on a strong season.
