Devon B
Tavistock v
Barnstaple and Pilton
ON a warm afternoon and a hard track, Tavistock skipper Shaun Daymond won the toss and decided to bat.
A good first wicket partnership between Ian Gray and Aaron Churchill got Tavistock to 52 when Gray (27) was bowled by Jack Popham.
Skipper Daymond then joined Churchill at the crease and put on a steady 37 until Churchill (40) put one straight to a fieldsman in the covers. Dave Manning and Daymond kept things ticking over until Manning (19) and Daymond (22) got dismissed in two balls taking the home side from 125-2, to 125-4.
A superb eighth wicket partnership of 40 between Jonty Newton (14) and Sean Cleave (21) lifted the home side back up with rate and the home side were all out for 183.
A great start from Tavistock was led by Jamie Stephens and Ollie Sale which strangled Barnstaple to 27-4.
The bowling was also backed up with some great fielding when Jonty Newton and Dave Downham held two great catches to take Barnstaple to 58-6. A slight comeback from the away side when skipper Steve Moore and Jack Popham put on 48 for the seventh wicket until a great stumping from Manning off the bowling of Daymond broke the partnership. Then man of the match Sean Cleave struck with 4-53 and wiped out Barnstaple for a convincing 52 run victory for the home side.
