THREE runners from Tavistock Athletic Club went to Wales for the second largest half Marathon Cardiff Half in its 15th year.
Ian Collacott, Jason Shipton and John Windemer took on the Cardiff half. Jason was the first to finish in a time of 1 hour 34 minutes 03 seconds, a personal best by two minutes, followerd by Ian 1.35.19 with a four minute PB and and John finishing 2.04.16.
18,966 runners took part and all TAC runners will go back and run this race again, having said what a lovely course it was.
The route took runners past the capital’s most iconic landmarks with beauitful scenery and historic buildings. The predominately flat and fast course make it ideal for beginners.
The race starts outside Cardiff Castle and runners then head down pass Cardiff City Stadium on the way to Penarth.
They took in the glorious Penarth Marina before crossing the barrage and heading to Cardiff Bay.
The runners run right through the heart of the bay taking in the Norwegian Church and Wales Millennium Centre. The course then headed towards the north of the city and runners competed a loop of the beauitful Roath Park Lake before the Grandstand finish in the heart of the city at the civic centre.
This year, for the first time in 15 years, two runners tragically died after suffering a cardiac arrest at the finish line. Tavistock AC express their deepest sympathies go to their families at this sad time.
