Tavistock Swimming Club’s Cara McVeigh has held her own at the Swim England National Summer Championships in Sheffield.
Cara was invited to attend the event held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, competing in the 50m and 100m butterfly events alongside some of the country’s top swimmers. She finished in 12th place in the 50m butterfly and after qualifying for the 100m butterfly final, swam a personal best time to claim eighth place in her age group.
Tavistock Swimming Club coach James Lake travelled north with Cara and her family.
He said: ‘I am so proud of Cara! She has been on such a journey over the last 12 months with achievement after achievement and to complete the season as a national finalist is what dreams are made of.
‘She has surpassed all her targets this year with her fantastic work ethic and never afraid of ‘‘giving it a go’’, great example.’
