STUDENTS from Callington Community College took part in the Cornwall Schools Athletic Events held recently at Par Running Track, St Austell.

All youngsters had to take part in six events which included hurdles, shot putt, high jump, javelin, 800 metres and long jump. The combined scores from these events gave them their final rating.

The students from the college did extremely well with some outstanding performances from them. Tom Osborne came 4th in the Boys U17 age group. Amy Bennallick finished in first place out of eight athletes in the U17 Girls event which is a fantastic achievement. In the Year 8 boys event Jim Luckhurst came 19th. In the Year 8 girls event Ellie Petherick-Davies finished 16th and Jasmine Gray came 18th out of twenty three athletes.

From the start of the day Ben Maciver-Redwood took first place and Dan Paton third, until the last of race of 800m where Ben was knocked back to 6th position and Dan fourth. This was a huge achievement for the Year 7s first athletics event.

The remaining Year 7 boys who competed against 14 other athletes achieved 8th Archie Ponting and 12th Charlie Crichton. In the Year 7 Girls event Annabel Colwill finished 5th and Devi Young 18th.

Tom Osborne and Amy Bennallick have now qualified for the South West Combined Competition being held in Exeter during June.
