CALLINGTON Community College U15 cricket team played an epic County Final at Truro School on June 22.

The team was to play in the final for the fourth year but had to yet beat Truro School.

After being put into bat by Truro the team made an excellent start scoring 17 runs for no wicket after two overs.

However, wickets began to fall and the score at the half way stage was Callington bowled out for 60 — the lowest score ever posted in a Cornish final!

Despite the score Callington kept upbeat. The team began with a spin attack and they were soon rewarded when bowler Toby May got out county opening batsman Tom Orpe.

Then Luke Brenton bowled four fast and accurate overs for one wicket conceding only seven runs. This was aided by Snowden bowling four overs taking two wickets for eight runs as Truro were now 20-4.

Josh Murray-Dustan was next on to bowl and his swing bowling took four wickets for only two runs. Eight wickets down Truro had only 39 runs; however, Callington had used their top four bowlers.

The team decided it would be the job of Aiden Jacob to try and win the game. Two wickets were needed; however, Truro could probably win the game in five shots.

As the final batsman smashed the ball skywards, Rob Piper steadied himself calling 'my ball'; the ball landed perfectly in his hands, finally winning the match.

The Callington Communitty College squad of players were — Luke Brenton, Josh Murray-Dustan, Toby May, Robert Piper, Aiden Jacob, Mateo Pearce, Leion Cole, Mark Poad, Richard Gregg, Christian Thomson, Adam Snowden, Dean Miles. They thanked their team manager Lee Hazeldine and the PE department.
