MEMBERS of Okehampton Running Club have been running, cycling and swimming throughout the length and breadth of Britain this month.

Merv Rice cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats. Dave Muglestone and Tim Watson did it the other way starting at John O'Groats in aid of the Exeter Leukemia Fund. Sue Walker came a brilliant second at the World Triathlon Championships in London, missing gold by only 12 seconds. Merv's daughter, Jenny, took part in the gruelling Horseman Ironman Triathlon on Dartmoor finishing first lady overall.

Jane Jones ran in the Highland Perthshire Marathon completing the beautiful scenic course near Aberfeldy in 4hrs 08, a UKA silver award time and a PB. Her husband Richard took part in the half marathon to finish in 2 hrs 02 - another PB.

Cornwall was the next destination for a trio of ORC ladies from Inwardleigh at the Siblyback Dig Deep 10k - a two lap circuit of the lake. Marilyn Cooper finished third lady overall in 49.59 (UKA gold), Danielle Fulford-Brown was delighted to achieve her goal of a bronze UKA award and a PB in 53.04. Jess Corcoran also had a PB in 1.00.24.

Roger Voaden and Rob Kelly ran with some of the best athletes in the county at the Devon county 10,000 metres track championships at the Exeter Arena. Twenty-five laps of the track was very different from their usual type of run but both enjoyed the well organised race put on by South West Road Runners and Ironbridge Runners. Roger's time of 36.41 won him his second diamond UKA award this year and Rob's 37.29 was a gold UKA time.

Mags Jarvis took part in the Wirral Multi Terrain Series Race 2, five miles along the beach and the Wirral Way. She finished in 42.05, with her daughter Sarah the second lady overall. Back home again Mags next ran with Jane Jackson at Westward Ho! in North Devon for the inaugural Kipling Coastal Run – a tough eight miles again starting on the beach. Jane completed in 1.06.23 (first, F55) and Mags in 1.09.51 (second, F55).

The Truro Half Marathon saw Paul Carter run a strong race to finish in 1.29.16, a gold UKA time. On the same day there were five members in Bristol for the Half Marathon. Charlotte Radnor led the way for ORC posting 1.44.25 (PB bronze UKA), Detlef Schoenfeld 1.46.30 (bronze UKA), Anne Binns 1.49.30 (PB silver UKA), Abby Williams 1.56.30 (bronze UKA) and Stuart May 1.57.12.
