Yelverton Villa 3

Roborough 6

IT was going to take nothing short of a minor miracle for Villa to progress to the quarter-finals against a Roborough side who were second in league one.

Roborough dominated possession throughout the first half as Villa defended deep, making it difficult for Roborough to break them down. These tactics meant that Villa's Lloyd Pomfret had to work hard as the lone striker and he showed great strength and skill to create a couple of good opportunities for himself, but just failed to find the net.

However two silly defensive errors by Villa and a penalty on the stroke of half-time gifted Roborough a 3-0 lead at the break.

Yelverton started the second half with a determination and started to commit players forward. This change of tactics reaped the reward almost immediately, as Dan Lee broke down the right wing before delivering a great ball into the box for Pomfret to turn into the net.

Roborough piled the pressure on the Villa goal, forcing a string of great saves from Mike Ball. They responded minutes later through the central defender, who leapt highest to head home a corner; but the same player then conceded a penalty and Dave Harwood scored for Villa.

Roborough scored the goals which wrapped up the game although Pomfret scored for Villa from a freekick.
