Carlsberg South West Peninsula premier Camelford 0

Tavistock AFC 3

THE Lambs ended a run of six games without a victory, with this impressive away performance at Trefew Park. This win lifts them out of the relegation places and gives a firm platform to push on and climb the league table.

The home team started at a fast pace and Lambs keeper Dean Smith was called on to make a couple of smart saves in the opening 15 minutes, to prevent them from opening the scoring.

The Lambs then settled down and began to get a foot hold in the game. In the 18th minute a fine move down the right saw a Stuart Morgan shot pushed away for a corner kick by keeper Josh Colwill.

The game flowed from end to end with both teams trying to create an opening to get the all important first goal. The home team had a couple of half chances but the back line and Dean Smith dealt with any threat.

In the 24th minute a fine move by the Lambs saw a Lee Blatchford shot from 20 yards go inches over the bar, with the keeper well beaten. The Lambs kept pressing forward and were rewarded for their efforts in the 33rd minute. A flowing move resulted in a corner kick, Tom Hall's corner found Ian Rooke sending in a drive that was blocked, the ball fell to Dan Pethick who blasted the ball low past Colwill into the corner of the net.

The visitors had two more opportunities to increase their lead before the interval, but a header from Morgan in the 38th minute was well saved by Colwill, and Dan Pethick's header from a corner kick, was just wide of the target.

Camelford really came out in the second half with new enthusiasm, and really took the game to the Lambs. They were particularly dangerous down the right flank, as their approach play improved. Chances fell to Sandercock and Pooley but both failed to get their shots on target. Having weathered this early storm the Lambs began to get back in control and looked the more likely to add to their score.

The Lambs did get caught out, when Camelford counter attacked, after a move by the Lambs had broken down. Dean Smith produced a magnificent one handed save, low down to his right, and pushed the ball away fro a corner kick, to preserve the Lambs lead.

After Dan Pethick had tested Colwill with a fierce drive in the 78th minute, the Lambs finally got that second goal they needed, to give them some breathing space. After some fine work by Jarryd Kelly he produced a fine pass to set Miles Hatfield, who calmly slotted the ball past the advancing Colwill, into the corner of the net.

In the dying minutes the Lambs scored a third goal, when Lee Blatchford's inch perfect free kick found the impressive Stuart Morgan at the far post, to power home a great header.

Ever member of the team played their part in this well earned and deserved victory for the Lambs. With keeper Dean Smith and Jamie Ahern and Dan Follett at the heart of the Lambs defence in great form, they gave a firm base for the team to build on. Blatchford is getting back to his best, and Kelly and Pethick are looking a real threat up front. Recent signings Hatfield and Morgan look to have settled into the team.

This is a result that was desperately needed and the team will have to build on this in order to climb the league table. There is no room for complacency, as there is need for further improvement, to ensure that the club are not in a relegation dog fight, at the end of the season. On the plus side several of the players out with injury, are near to being available for selection, this will give more depth to the squad and greater competition for places.
