St Stephen's firsts v

Yelverton thirds

YELVERTON won the toss and decided to bowl first on a green wicket. Ian Dawe and Alan Munton opened the bowling. They bowled tightly and put the opposition openers under pressure. However, neither could get the breakthrough, so after 11 overs Ben Spear came on to bowl with Nigel Blair bowling from the other end.

Nigel bowled well and was unlucky not to get more than 1 wicket and finished with 1 for 27 off his 10 overs. Ben bowled well and dismissed the top order, taking 4 wickets for 33 in his ten.

Sandy Ralph came on to bowl and took a wicket in his first over. Ian and Alan finished off St Stephen's, Alan bowling well and got a double wicket maiden, finishing with 2 for 24 off 7 overs. Ian wiped out the tail leaving the score on 129 all out.

Yelverton's innings got off to a poor start with Jon Smith falling for 8 and Kenny Sandell for 5. John Giblin came in at number 3 and quickly hit a six and a four but was caught out for 17. Ian Cook scored a well-made 15 but then wickets fell as Sandy, Brian, and Matt all fell for single figures.

Ben Spear and Ian Dawe steadied the innings with Ian hitting a quick 19 with two fours and a six and Ben playing a watchful innings finishing not out on 18, leaving the score 107 for 9 after the 40 overs. The final 20 overs of the innings was played in the rain which made it difficult to score runs so well done Yelverton for not losing all the wickets.

Matt Smith kept wicket excellently, and Sandy Ralph took two superb catches.
