GAWTON Gravity Hub, the British Cycling affiliated mountain bike club, run by those behind the Gawton and Tavistock Woodlands downhill tracks, will be welcoming riders and spectators to their fifth annual 'Summer Gravity Jam.'

The event will take place on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 at their Tavistock Woodlands site near Chipshop, which boasts a range of downhill tracks from easy 'blue' tracks to 'black' tracks.

Club members, visiting mountain bikers and spectators can enjoy a day of crazy competitions, freestyle jump off's, free riding, music and barbecues and a chance to ride all the tracks.

Brett Nicolle, Gawton Gravity Hub secretary, said: 'The fun on Saturday will be followed by a day of friendly racing, as club members fight it out on the swooping berms, slippery roots, rock gardens and steep drops to see who will be fastest down the hill and be crowned club champion.

'If you don't think you've got the skills to enter the race don't worry, there is plenty of excitement to be had just spectating.

'The highlight this year for riders will be the stunt airbag, where back flips, 360s and tail whips can be perfected in safety before taking them to the tracks! The midday freestyle jump off, with riders pulling tricks while jumping 25 feet in the air, is always a favourite with spectators.'

The club will also be offering youngsters from local schools the opportunity of some coaching from British Cycling instructors and the chance to take part in a short course timed race to see if the racing bug bites.

Advice on bike maintenance will be available from the Bike Hub, and local bike shops will be on hand with a range of clothing, parts and accessories and demo bikes.

Entrance to riders and spectators is free on Saturday. Anyone wishing to race on Sunday must be a club member, but membership can be obtained on the day for just £30 for the year and spectating is free or you can get paid if you sign up to marshal the race.
