TAVISTOCK Athletics Club organise a monthly 5K race the Tavy 5K (formerly 5KooLRuN), this month the event was supporting the local Parkinson’s UK Group.

Six members of Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) accompanied by some family and friends, made the short trip take part in the event and support this worthwhile cause. The 5K route is a relatively flat route suitable for all abilities. It starts on the Tavistock College athletics track, going around the school under the subway and into the Meadows, from where runners run alongside the canal before going down to the river and return back to the athletics track.

First BAT in was Martin Head 22 minutes 59 seconds, followed by Ben Saul 25.27 (setting a distance personal best, Hilary Head 29.44 27 (setting a distance PB), Kelly Shaw 35.29 (running her first official 5K) and Jo Bourton and Orla Turner 47.09.

The second event of the day for the BATs was another local one, Plymouth Harriers’ 6 Moor Miles. The event has previously been held in July, but due to poor weather conditions it was postponed.

The race provides a unique opportunity to run a one lap course of approximately six miles, in the picturesque surroundings of the Maristow Estate, across open moorland on a well marshalled course with one water station.

This year’s event was raising money for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW). The first of the 15 BATs home was Gary Fielder, followed by Paul Ashton, Martin Head, Jim Andrews, Debbie Ashton and Tanya Argue, Ralph Elmes, Pam and Dave Adams, Shaun Hingston, Sam Harte-Latremouille, Natasha Hingston, Karen Bradfield, Dominika Nawalany and Hilary Head (official race timings were unavailable at the time of writing).
