EARLIER this month 10 Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in the Plymouth Round Table’s annual January Jaunt. The January Jaunt was a 10k run from the Speedway track at Marsh Mills into Saltram and back.

The route was on road, a mixture of tarmac or sealed surface paths, compacted gravel and well maintained woodland tracks. Proceeds were being donated to the Round Table’s chosen charities.

Jim Medhurst led the male BATs in finishing in a time of 45 minutes 42 seconds shortly followed by Tanya Argue for the ladies in 51.29. The BATs team also comprised Gary Fielder 48.08, Lisa Birch 52.21, Clare Munro 53.07, Julie Page 53.52, Kate Medhurst 56.23, Matthew Wood 59.43, Shaun Hingston 1.00.27 and Natasha Hingston 1.02.08. Lisa Birch was first in her age category.

On Sunday the BATs travelled to the North Devon coast for North Devon Road Runners’ Braunton 10.

The main race was the Alby Tithecott Memorial Run — a 10-miler road race, with two infamous climbs, designed to test the legs and spirit. There was also the 10k Steph Irwin Memorial Run which provides some similar challenges and retains the overall feel of the original course. Seven BATs took part in the 10 Mile Alby Tithecott Memorial Run and were led in by Jim Medhurst in 1.17.32 followed by Tanya Argue 1.28.00, Holly Higgs 1.37.21, Lisa Birch 1.37.26, Andy Cowden 1.37.27, Julie Page 1.37.33, Debbie Ashton 1.38.14 and Marcia Macey 1.47.13.

Samantha Harte-Latremouille represented the BATs in the 10K Steph Irwin Memorial Run (Sam’s time was unavailable as Times Sport went to press).
