LAST Wednesday members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) hung up their trainers and shorts in favour of posh frocks and shirts to make their way to the Olde Plough in Bere Ferrers for their annual presentation evening.
2012 has seen the club grow from strength to strength with new members bringing the club total up to more than 55.
This year has seen club members take part in some tough challenges including The Grizzly, marathons including London, Edinburgh and Loch Ness. The Dartmoor Discovery, the Bude Bruter and the Cornish Marathon.
The presentation evening is not only a chance for Bats to get together socially but to recognise the hard work of club members who have gone the extra mile or improved considerably or who have been a good all round Bat.
This years trophy winners: Male newcomer Nathan Newton; female newcomer Maria Kushnirov; improver of the year Hilary Head; club member of the year Julian Setteringon and Hilary Head; male bat of the year and athlete of the year, Paul Mingo; female Bat of the year, Heather Smith; Bats committee awards, Laurence Sargeant and Pam Adams; chair award, Nathan Newton.
Club coaches Laurence Sargeant, Murray Turner and Dotty Allan were thanked for their work throughout the year. Samantha Marshall and Bridget Macdonald were given flowers in recognition of their club secretarial work.
Club chair Dotty Allan said 'a big well done' to all club members, old and new, and to Sarah, Ted and staff at the Plough.
