THE weekend saw Bere Alston Trekker couple Martin and Hilary Head venturing into Cornwall again to take part in Mud Crew’s The Quest.
This is a weekend coast path running festival covering some of the most spectacular and challenging coast path Cornwall has to offer. Based at Tintagel Castle there are three events to choose from: The Quest Castle to Castle 10 mile - a great introduction to coastpath running; The Quest 40 – a 40 mile ultra marathon - to be competed solo or as a relay pair and ?The Quest 24 – a 24 hour endurance event.
Martin and Hilary took part in Castle to Castle, a 10 mile run on the North Cornwall coast path. Starting at Tintagel Castle, the runners set off north towards Rocky Valley and onwards to Boscastle Harbour. Here the runners collected their ’relic’ (to prove they had covered the route), refuelled at the checkpoint, before turning back retracing their route to Tintagel Castle — knowing the steep climbs and tricky descents that awaited them before they reached the finish.
The terrain, with some 2,000ft of climbing made the route challenging, and Martin finished in 1.57.16 and Hilary 2.47.00.
The next event for the BATs is their own BerePen 10 on Saturday — details from the BATs website www.berealstontrekkers.co.uk/races/bere-pen10k.
