LAST weekend, mirroring last year's event, after days and days of torrential rain, some brave Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) pulled on their off-road shoes to take part in the Torrington Christmas Caper.

The Caper is one of the most challenging multi-terrain runs in the South West and it covered approx-imately nine and a half miles and featuring as much of the mud, hills, woods, rivers, forests and country lanes Torrington has to offer.

Making their Caper debut were Fran Morgan and Murray Turner with all other Bats running the event for the second time and achieving course personal bests.

First lady Bat home, and third lady overall, was Sarah Burns 1 hour 06 minutes 59 seconds and first male Bat home and first in his age group was Laurence Sargeant.
