WITH the hottest weekend of the year thus far, members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) and the Saturday Ladies took part in two events.

In the Duckponds 7k multi-terrain event on Saturday evening. This race started at Oreston Primary School in Plymstock and is a two lap course taking in grass, footpath, woodlands and a short distance of private road, all in and around Radford Park and surrounding areas.

Taking part were Bats Leigh Cossey-Haggar and Phil King, both Bats ran great times with Leigh finishing in 31 minutes 30 seconds and Phil in 34.38.

On Sunday morning it was the Rotary 5 Mile. The race, which was started by the Mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Harry Smith, started at Kilworthy Park and wound its way along the cycle track to Crease Lane and then out to Mill Hill and back again which included some steep hills on the return.

It was a really hot day for running and all runners did well to finish.  

First lady home for the Bats and finishing second overall was Ruth MacIntyre.   First male Bat and third overall was Nathan Newton. There were other great Bat performances with Sally Dunn finishing fourth overall.  There were also a number of Saturday ladies taking part with most running their first event.

The Rotary 5 also has a 1.75 mile fun run which saw some great running from the Fruit Bats.
