ON June 22 Bere Alston Trekker’s Martin and Hilary Head joined six from Tamar Trial Runners – Louise Cheetham, Donna Baker, Susannah Boule, Nathan Christmas, Dave Gale and Nick Page - to take part in The Polzeath 10K.

This is an 10K Trail Running Race from Freedom Racing, the second event in a series of five Summer Sessions with the event being run in glorious sunshine.

This multi terrain event starts with a half mile across the beach at Polzeath before the 10k trail race joins the coast path then heading up a valley to Pentire Farm; it goes to the landmark Rumps headland that has some fun, scrambly sections before heading to Pentire Point. The runners turned for home and run a section of coastpath with open views out to sea, across Padstow Bay to Stepper Point, beyond to Trevose Head and ahead to Polzeath beach and to the finish.

The event had a fabulous atmosphere and all 231 participants including the West Devon contingent finished with smiles. Martin finished in 55 minutes 58 seconds and Hilary 01.17.57 and the Tamar Trail runners Nathan 48.16, Dave 59:34, Nick 1.05.04, Susannah 1.07.56 and Louise and Donna 1.07.56.

On Saturday BAT Marcia Macey ran the inaugural Culinarily Coastal Canter. Pure Trail Running. Described by the event organisers as ‘Food glorious food! (with a run in-between)’, this 17-mile route comprised coastal trails, beaches and riverside meanderings, starting from Mothercombe, on the Flete Estate, in the South Hams. Despite the hot conditions, Marcia finished her race in 4.28.22.
