AT the weekend intrepid Bere Alston Trekker Clare Munro tackled her third half-marathon in as many weeks when she took on the infamous Grizzly 2019.

The only BAT in attendance, Clare set off from Seaton Esplanade for 20 trail-miles of mud, bog, hills, beach-shingle and a total ascent of more than 3,000 feet. Clare finished well raising money for The Chestnut Appeal in the process.

Meanwhile, northern BAT Andy Cowden travelled to Staffordshire for the Knighton 20. Andy set out from the small village of Knighton for three scenic laps along Staffordshire’s country lanes.

Conditions were harsh with an icy wind threatening to stop runners in their tracks or blow them sideways. Billed as an ideal race for those training for the London or Manchester Marathons, Andy ran it ahead of the Manchester in four weeks’ time, finishing in a respectable 3 hours 27 minutes 21 seconds.

Andy said: ‘This is the third time I’ve run this one and it certainly doesn’t get any easier and was particularly brutal today with a very blustery wind that at times either forced you to a virtual standstill or threatened to blow you over.

‘Fortunately despite the early morning snow and hail the race itself remained dry.

‘Well chuffed with that as the wheels started to come off from mile 16.’
