FOLLOWING a night of torrential rain and gales, the skies cleared for the last autumn marathon of the season, which was taken on by four members of Okehampton Running Club.

Roger Voaden put in a typically good performance to finish in 3.21.30, with Paul Carter not far behind in 3.25.00 and Andrew Thorne in 4.12. Rob Kelly pulled out at mile 6, feeling unwell.

Mervyn Rice took the long trip up to Cumbria for the Kendal Mountain Festival. The four day event is a celebration of all aspects of outdoor pursuits, including running, cycling, climbing, and outdoor swimming.

The Adidas 10K trail race is part of the event and starts in the town, taking the runners out to Scout Scar, then north along the escarpment before heading back into Kendal for the finish. The recent snow did not affect the going here, but made for stunning views of the snow-covered peaks of the higher fells. Mervyn completed the race in 57.13 and was pleased to come 2nd MV60 in such good fell running company.
