IN division one of the Okehampton and district Table Tennis League, Okehampton A played Anchorage A, with Okehampton winning 10-0.

In the first half Steve Tyler, John Down and John Squire all scored maximums, but John Squire had a hard game against Colin Brooker who won the first two legs before John stepped up a gear to win the next three, to put Okehampton 6-0 ahead.

The doubles was another close game between Steve Tyler and John Down against Malcolm Hopkins and Colin Brooker, the latter pair winning the last two legs for the win.

In the next match, Anchorage were at home to Milton Abbot who could only field two players. Anchorage raced into a 5-0 lead before Tim Wescott beat Colin Jones in five legs, and beat Colin Brooker in straight sets for his second singles. Michael Blatchford won his first singles of the season beating Colin Jones in four legs.

Colin Brooker and Malcolm Hopkins won the doubles against Michael and Tim for a 7-3 win for Anchorage A.

In division two, Okehampton C beat their B side 10-0, as in their first half match Ben Boulton scored his first maximum of the season. Although Maureen Venton took him to five legs in his first game, John Howick took the first two legs but Ben fought back to win the next three. Okehampton C won the next five singles and the doubles for the win.

In the next match Horrabridge were at home against league leaders North Wyke. John Stewart put Horrabridge 1-0 ahead against Tom Misselbrook, but Xubo Chang levelled at 1-1 in a hard-fought win over Callum Sherrell who did well to win the first two legs, Xubo taking the next three.

Lesley Coleman played well against Jill Whitley, just losing out 11-13 in the third leg. Tom Misselbrook put North Wyke 3-1 ahead against Callum.

John Stewart won the next match against Jill and Xubo won his second against Lesley, but Callum beat Jill in five legs.

With the score at 5-3 to North Wyke, Xubo beat John for the first time this year in a hard-fought five leg game winning 15-13 in the fifth for a 6-3 to North Wyke , who went on to win the match 7-3.

In the last division two match, Moretonhampstead played Horrabridge. Moretonhampstead did well to get a 5-5 draw, thanks to a fine maximum for Brian Skilton. John Stewart and Bob Newcombe both won two singles. Brian and Ken Underhill won a hard-fought doubles against John and Callum, who won the first two legs. Brian and Ken fought back to win the next three for a 5-5 draw.
