RESIDENTS and visitors to Tavistock will soon be able to hear the parish church clock in a more tuneful mode, following work to repair the clock's carillon.
Members of the town council's properties committee were given the news at their meeting last week. Town clerk Roger Howard said there had been a delay while the company repairing the equipment had sought extra tunes for it to play, rather than just one.
Cllr Debo Sellis enquired whether the carillon played 24 hours a day.
'If it's programmed to play Zippedy-doo-dah at 2.30am, that's not going to be very good,' she said.
Cllr Mandy Govier said she did not believe the chimes were at all intrusive for anyone living nearby.
The tunes played by the carillon will play daily at 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm.
