South Zeal Utd 4
University 4
A SPIRITED second half Zeal performance gained a draw having been 4-2 down with only 20 minutes left to play.
For the opening 15 minutes Zeal seemed in control and went a goal up when Reg Wonnacott placed a great free kick into the path of Harley Cann who took the ball on and finished well into the far corner of the University net.
The visitors were starting to dominate the midfield and went 2-1 up on the half-hour, the first being a great finish from the edge of the Zeal penalty area and the second a close range effort that gave the excellent Neil Clift in the Zeal goal no chance.
With University dominating Zeal forced themselves level when Roger White finished from close range. But the visitors finished the first half 3-2 up when Reg Wonnacott headed into his own goal after a great near-post corner forced him into trying to make an almost impossible clearance.
Zeal upped the tempo in the second half and attacked the visitors at every opportunity, but with 20 minutes left John Halliday miss-controlled a clearance which allowed one of the students? strikers to take the ball on and go 4-2 up.
It looked difficult for Zeal but they pressurised the visitors in the last 20 minutes and were rewarded with a point when Dave Wooldridge cut the deficit to one and Roger White equalised with five minutes left.
Zeal could easily have got all three points but could not convert the few chances that came their way in the last five minutes.
Next game home to Honiton, March 29, kick-off 3pm.
