Bedford Chairman?s Cup Semi-Final Tavistock Reserves 2 Lamerton 3 THE first period saw Lamerton create most of the play. Strikers Paul Cowling and Steve Wickett were hot to handle and both went close on more than one occasion. Tavistock struggled to get a hold of the ball, but they did manage to open the scoring 10 minutes before the break. Winger Kevin Blatchford ran down the right wing and into the penalty area and although Simon Breyley?s oncoming tackle was clean, it was a tug beforehand by the full back that produced a very soft penalty. Blatchford stepped up himself to convert. At half time Lamerton felt aggrieved to be 1-0 down, but they kept up the chase for an equaliser, which came midway through the second half. Full back Steve Roast played in Cowling who raced away from the Tavistock defence to beat the keeper. Lamerton, now the favourites for victory went behind once more when Blatchford again beat his man and unleashed a shot from outside the box. The ball moved in the air and Pete Daniel could only parry to the onrushing striker Danny Chapman, who could not miss from one yard. Lamerton bounced back superbly, when another through ball by Roast this time found Lee Wickett, on for brother Steve and he finished neatly with the outside of the boot. Lamerton then took their final chance of the game with 10 minutess left, when a misplaced back pass saw Zac Beesley get to the ball before the home keeper, leading to a simple tap into an empty net. Tavistock fought back near the end, but it was too little too late for the home side as Lamerton deservedly go through to the final.
