Lewdown 2nds v Gunnislake
WITH an average age of just 19, this young Lewdown 2nd XI continues to impress. Winning the toss, Lewdown invited top of the league and unbeaten Gunnislake to bat first.
All the Lewdown bowlers bowled well and restricted Gunnislake to just 88 runs for the loss of 9 wickets from their 40 allocated overs. Mark Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with 3-11, with Greg Sleep 3-23 and Brenden Worth 2-13 all contributing.
The Lewdown openers saw off a fiery opening spell from the quick Gunnislake opening bowler, and were able to coast home for the loss of just 1 wicket with Olly Brown unbeaten on 51.
Lewdown 19 points beat previously unbeaten Gunnislake, 2 points by 9 wickets. Lewdown entertain Gunnislake in the return fixture this coming Saturday.
A week earlier, Lewdown played Ordulph Arms at Kelly College. They won the toss and elected to bat first, with brothers Ed Squire 67 and Martin Squire 56 adding 94 for the second wicket. Harry Geering 17 and Brenden Worth 36 no helped contribute to a challenging 208 total.
Rob Squire and Andy Vernon both took an early wicket, reducing Ordulph to 4 for 2, but stubborn batting helped Ordulph reach 130 for 5 at the end of their overs. Lewdown 17 points beat Ordulph Arms, 8 points by 78 runs.
On July 24 Lewdown welcomed Yelverton to the Recreation Field. Batting first Yelverton made 125 for 7 in their 40 overs, with Brenden Worth taking 5 for 31. Lewdown struggled against some tight Yelverton bowling, with only 3 batsmen making an impact. Martin Squire 22, the experienced Tony Worth 26 and Steve Cowley 29, bringing Lewdown home by 2 wickets with 8 balls to spare.
Lewdown 17 points, beat Yelverton 7 points by 2 wickets.
