OKEHAMPTON Argyle Youth Football Club is to become internationally known thanks to the launch of a new website.

The club is one of the few in Devon that has set up its own website — http://www.oayfc.org.uk">www.oayfc.org.uk — and according to youth clubs' chairman John Pearce it is going to open up an endless supply of opportunities.

'This will raise the profile of the club and get the kids noticed,' he said.

'I have already arranged friendly matches with Horrabridge and Plymouth over the internet and offered a match to a Canadian team who are coming over to England this year.'

Mr Pearce said he had also found sites for youth football teams in Brazil, Japan and America and he was building up contacts.

Because of the club's connection with Exeter City Football Club, in that it runs a satellite soccer school, the aim is to link their two websites.

'If we can tie in with a professional club the more people will look at it,' added Mr Pearce.

'The better the site the more interested people will be in the teams and the players.'

The website will have a home page and pages for each team which will include photographs, lists of players, general information and results through the season.

There will be a newsletter section, a profile of the town and information about sponsors.

Mr Pearce, who has been aided by his son, Charlie, in setting up the website, said he had already got a link with Euro 2000 for the summer.

'Having the world at our fingertips it is a real chance to develop the club,' he said.
