THE early exchanges were tightly contested with some good forward play and tackling by the both sides' backs.
It was the home team that broke the deadlock with an unconverted try after five minutes as their backs crossed the line from 20 metres out after they had gained good possession at a ruck.
From the kick off the Okes made swift progress into the visitors' territory and it was only the brave defence of Will Slater and Barney Megicks that saved a second try from the home side. This proved to be the turning point of the match as Tavistock started to look to be a stronger and more cohesive unit up front with Charlton, Smith, and Piper dominating with astute kicking by Rory Springbett.
Centre James Perring brought the scores level with an excellent finish from close range.
As they increased the pressure on the Okehampton line Tavistock transformed the pressure into points with a quick pick up by Will Slater from a scrum five metres out; Brinkhurst converted to give them a 12-5 lead at half time.
The second half started in similar fashion with strong runs from the Tavistock forwards, but it was not long before the home side came back into the game as they began to get more possession.
Fierce and determined tackling by the Tavistock side the home side at bay before Okehampton's Marcus Hoddinott took advantage of a loose ball to cross from 10 metres out. This brought them within two points of the visitors but unluckily the conversion attempt hit the post and the score remained at 12-10.
Tavistock held on to their lead in an exciting five minutes.

IN this closely fought game it was the Okes' George Nye who was first on the score sheet with a well worked ball from the home forwards coming out through the backs to put him in on the wing.
This was followed by the second try by Brandon Horne who took advantage of a spilled ball by the Tavistock defence on their try line. Brad Curtis crashed through the Tavistock defence to score the third try.
Tavistock fought back with a well worked try comming from winger Christian Hodginson a North Okes' penalty on the Tavistock line for the fourth try.
Good play by the Tavistock number eight saw him go over for two converted tries; this was followed shortly by Okes' Brandon Horne stealing the ball off the visitors' defence to score in the corner.
North Okes' defence seemed to relax to let a hungry Tavistock side to come back with their fourth and final try.
This was a great effort by both sides in this local derby. Both teams converted all their tries.
Shebbear College U11s 33
West Buckland U11s 14
THE Shebbear team played well with some powerful runs from Mark Withecombe, Thomas Squire and tackling from Nathan Fouche.
At half time Shebbear led 9-0 but West Buckland hit back with two converted tries of their own. The home side's team work paid off as they scored two further tries to win 33-14.

WITH only 11 players, it was decided to play one game 20 mins each way. Okehampton started brightly, scoring two tries early on. Tavistock put in some good tackling, especially from Harrison Astley and Nathan Sellars, which allowed for some counter rucking. Ben Dunlop for Tavistock ran in from 20 metres. Sol Pengilly ripped the ball out in the tackle and ran in for another try.
In the second half, Okehampton again started the brighter, scoring another two tries, but Tavistock came back strong with some good running and support from Tristan Hampton Scott and Max Pamplin.
Ben Roberts then ran in a try, cutting between two defenders.
The Okes scored again late on, but it was a good tackling effort from Tavistock.
The Okes went on to win reasonably comfortably to maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Oks tries were scored by Leon Horne (3), Gregory Daniel, Simon Moody and a fine persistent individual effort from Ollie Ardon.

Tavistock U9s 20
Tavistock U9s continued their winning streak with a convincing victory over Okehampton.
Tries came from Tom, Jude, Jack and Theo secured the win.
Outstanding tackling from Joe Burbage gave the team the platform they needed. Freddie and Lachlan were quick thinking and straight up to the opposition.
Strong forward runs from Jason and Jack caused Okehampton problems and fine running from Jude and, man of the match Tom Pearson, got the team the points they needed.
It was, however, some inspired defence on Tavistock's own try line that stopped Oke in their tracks. This was a credit to the whole team who worked hard and supported each. None more than Luke and Seamus who were always there for their team mates. Both sides tackled with force, but Tavistock were stronger and managed to put over a few more tries. This did not stop Okehampton from continuing to attack, with strong play in the middle of the field from Bradley, Daniel and Will but further tries alluded them despite their valiant efforts.

TAVISTOCK started slowly so Okehampton exploited the gaps in the Tavistock defence to the tune of four tries by half time.
Tavistock replied with some fierce attacks but with only one soiltary try by Louis Peake resulting.
Both sets of players acquitted themselves well with some outstanding individual all round performances, notably coming from Cole Pengelly 3, Harry Laing-Taylor 3, James Stevens, Daniel Tomkins and Daniel Wonnacott.
Persistent tagging in defence from Okehampton broke down several Tavistock attacks, with David Smith, Ben Wharton, Matthew Denning, Dominic Strugnell and Jake Laing-Taylor all being prominent in creating tries for others.
For Tavistock there was good support work from Joe Inman and Louis Thornton lead to a further three tries for Tavistock from Henry Varndell-Dawes, Louis Peake and a well earned try for Harry Richardson.
As Okehampton dominated the first half Tavistock took the second. However time ran out for Tavistock and another Okehampton try resulted in a slim defeat for Tavistock after such a plucky comeback.

IN the second game Okehampton finish the day as they started - finding loopholes in the Tavistock defence with some fast running and good use of width.
Tavistock worked hard as a team to stay in the game with some spirited performances from Tom Gardener and Devon Jackman.
The four Tavistock tries came form Harry Edwards and Noah Berridge (two each). Noah's second coming after a sterling run by Jack Baker ending with Jack being tagged almost on the try line. Good defensive work by Tavistock's Harry Richardson and William Chapman kept the Okehampton score down.
