Tavistock Town U16s 3

TWO goals from Matt McClung and an outstanding goal from Josh Midson-Holmes saw Tavistock overcome a resolute Staddiscombe at Kelly College on Saturday.

Although going into an early two goal lead with a brace by the hard working McClung, Tavistock got themselves in trouble at the break by conceding a goal and having Sam Turner sent off.

Town dominated the first half an hour after which the game degenerated into a scrappy affair with both sides giving away possession at regular intervals.

The half ended with a long range goal from Staddiscombe and the dismissal of influential midfielder Sam Turner for an over zealous challenge and a second bookable offence

Tavistock reorganised, with Matt McClung dropping into midfield leaving Midson-Holmes as the lone striker. They coped well throughout the second half despite being a man short.

The back four of Tommy Cole, Matt White, Karl Howell-Andrews and Simon Young were dominant, ably assisted by the hard working midfield and consequently Staddiscombe were limited to just a couple of attacks throughout the half. The best moment of a mediocre match came when Midson-Holmes latched on to a clearance by the visiting keeper to chip a return from outside the box to seal the victory..

Tavistock Thistles U15s 2

THE game started evenly with the Thistles backline defending well, catching the Hooe forwards offside time after time.

Will Hall supported the forward line well from midfield, scoring two good goals and Bradley Barbour made good runs down the wing throughout the game.

In spite of their positive attacking play the Thistles midfield failed to help out defensively and saw Hooe attacks come through them and onto an already tiring defence.

Despite the lack of defensive support from midfield Roger Blanford continued to make some important challenges and really put the effort in. Unfortunately, it was difficult to raise the heads of Thistles again and, after a penalty was awarded to Hooe in the latter stages of the game, it was all over. Dean Lambert played well throughout the game however Thistles' player man of the match was James Scrivener.

Woolwell Juniors U14s 6

AN excellent performance by Thistles produced a thrilling first half.  Josh Monger performed strongly in goal and this his side's best player.

Despite this impressive display, Woolwell went into the interval two goals to the good. Thistles worked hard in the second half and were rewarded when George Dean capped a good performance with an excellent goal. Unfortunately Thistles failed to build on their goal and Woolwell won the game comfortably.

There were good performances from Will Stenhouse, Dan Allan and Olly Hyde.

Looe Town U13s 4

THISTLES faced an in form Looe Town team in a match that was largely dictated by a strong wind. Playing into the wind in the first half proved difficult for Thistles and it played its part in an early Looe goal.

The Thistles defence had to work hard and their player of the match goalkeeper Isaac Jeffery was pressed into making several great saves.

A second Looe goal forced Thistles onto the offensive and they created several chances. Unfortunately the Looe goalkeeper was equal to them.

With the wind behind them, Thistles started the second half brightly and were really unlucky to concede a third goal. Thistles continued to pour forward and the pressure finally led to a good solo goal from Toby Scanlan.

Looe responded with a quick goal but Thistles kept their heads up and should have had a second when Scanlan was denied by the Looe keeper. Martin Montague had an outstanding game, supporting his forwards with a number of attacking runs.

Tavistock Thistles U11s 6

FROM the kick off there was some good football played, however once again slack Thistles defending left them two goals down after only 10 minutes. Undeterred the team regrouped and played some great football to try and get back into the match.

Kenny Worden was nearly rewarded late in the first half with two shots both well saved well by the Beacon keeper.

After the break Thistles improved even more with the midfield of Mat Chambers, Dan Drummond, Kyle Clark and Worden fighting for every ball. A great ball over the top from the Thistles defence allowed Clark to latch on to fire home a superb shot.

Thistles equalised when Hayden Greening was fouled outside the box and Worden's screamer of a free kick went into the top corner. Railway Beacon took a 3-2 lead towards the end of the second period. And it could have been worse had Sean Donnoly not pulled off a stunning save from Railway Beacon's striker.

Jason Holland fired home his first goal for the club. 3-3 to go in extra time! Greening hit a great free-kick to make it 4-4.

Thistles were unlucky to lose 8-6 after penalties, despite fine efforts by the goalkeeper Donnoly.

Chaddlewood Miners 2

Horrabridge Rangers 10

HORRABRIDGE dominated this game from start to finish although it was the home side that took the lead after five minutes.

The visitors soon equalised courtesy of a Max Burgess 25 yard free-kick. Horrabridge then upped a gear and started to play soon good football, passing the ball with real quality and Sam Ryder added a second goal after scoring direct from a corner. Courtney Fry, Josh Birch and Max Burgess all added goals through one on one situations and Birch scored his second right at the end of the half when he latched on to an Aaron Johnson through-ball to thunder the ball past the advancing keeper.

The visitors continued to play some good football in the second half but were guilty of some wayward shooting and also found the Chaddlewood goalkeeper in good form as he pulled of save after save.

Sam Ryder scored his second of the game as he scored from 20 yards with a brilliantly placed effort. Horrabridge added further goals through Burgess who scored with a superb solo effort to claim his hat-trick and Birch who added two more goals to take his tally to four for the game. Rangers player of the match was Sam Ryder.
