ADDING support to Guide Dogs for the Blind is the Tavistock and District Funeral Service, which has decided to collect old mobile phones to help raise money for the charity.
The service on West Street has set up a 'bin' where people can donate their old phones — and for every mobile recycled Guide Dogs will receive £3.50.
David Burch, funeral director for Tavistock and District Funeral Service and organiser of the mobile phone collection, said: 'This collection will help create a little awareness for the guide dogs.
'Each year we pick a charity to help but this one is dearer to my heart as it's two-way — you are providing a dog to help a blind person and you are also providing a home for the dog.'
Pam Gratton, district fundraiser from Guide Dogs, said: 'Guide Dogs receive no government funding or grants of any kind but rely wholly upon the generosity of the public.
'We make a commitment for life to guide dogs and their owners and this simply would not be possible without the donations of our generous supporters and we very much appreciate David and his teams support of the charity.'
There are currently 4,600 working guide dgs in the UK, providing their visually-impaired owners with a life-transforming level of independence, freedom of mobility and confidence.
